2014 WORLD UNIVERSITY DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIP HELD IN CHENNAI, INDIA
First time in history, 2014 World University Debating Championship, UB finally sends it’s delegation to the most prestigious competition in Debating World. This annual competition held at the end of December till the opening days of new-year, hosted by Rajalakhsmi Institution in one of the best city in India, Chennai. Joined by almost 800 teams from hundreds university from all over the world, has made WUDC 2014 become the battlefield of predators in Debating Competition. Brawijaya’s first delegation to world, consist of Queentries Regar (International Relations/FISIP) and M. Nur Rizki Oceano Puritanical (International Business/FIA). Although they haven’t succeeded to nail anything, but both believes that the experience, knowledge and challenge that they got along the tournament will be useful for the future. In 2015, Universiti Teknologi Mara Malaysia, will be the next host of World University Debating Championship. The mechanism to choose the next host of WUDC is based on bidding system, where the capable candidates present them self to held this big event. Indonesian teams began to compete in the World Universities Debating Championships in 1999 at Ateneo de Manila University, the first WUDC held in Asia. No Indonesian team have broken into the main break but since the opening of the separate English as Second Language (ESL) and English as Foreign Language (EFL) breaks, several teams managed to proceed into the knockout rounds of these categories.
