BITTER FALL IN OCTOFINAL ROUND, TIGHT BATTLE WITH ITB
The rise of 2014 is opened with nation-wide debate tournament, IVED 20014. This annual competition has become one of the oldest debate tourney of the nation, thus it always attracts all varsities debaters in Indonesia to join. Approximately 60 teams were there to conquer the throne of IVED Champion. One of them is University of Brawijaya. Unlike the previous year in IVED ITB 2013, UB only sends 1 team on the battlefield. UB Delegates for IVED 2014 consist of Nadya Ayuning (Industrial Engineering/FT), M. Afdhal Anugrah (English Literature/FIB) and Haris Apriyanto (Nutritional Science/FK).
It hasn’t been an easy journey. They clashed with Indonesia predators to escape from the preliminary days, such as ITB A, UGM A, BINUS A and BIPEDS A. Despite of tough round they’ve been through, 4 VP (Victory Points) are nailed , out of 6 maximum points. The points made them become the 7th Breaking Team from 16 teams that made it to the Octofinal round. The next day, they face ITB team C in the octofinal. It has been an above average debate with lots of arguments and battle of ideas on the chamber. Yet, the fortune goddess is still on ITB side. The decision of 5 adjudicator was splitted 3 to 2. 3 judges wins ITB and 2 judges is on Brawijaya side.
The competition was held in Salatiga with Satya Wacana Christian University as the organizing committee. It held from January 10th – 14th 2014. UGM comes out as the Champion of this year IVED. Not to mentions, they also put all of their speakers in the top 3 best speakers of the tournament.
